St. Marguerite d’Youville students career ready for future

When the time comes for students at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Elementary School to head into their first job interview, they can rest assured they are going to nail it.

That’s because for the past month, the grade 7 and 8 students have been busy writing resumes, researching career pathways and practicing interview skills in preparation for the school’s 3rd annual career fair.

The event invited guest speakers from the community to share personal stories on their chosen career path. Highlights included Dave Preston, the head coach of McMaster men’s volleyball team, seminarian Kevin Upendran and Sunni Genesco, co-host of the Sunni and Hayes morning show on K-Lite FM.

Following, students were able to showcase their own career fair backboards of a possible future career choice to peers, family members and special guests.

“The board’s transition support team conducted mock interviews with the students,” said teacher Natash Shea-Metcalfe.

“The intermediate students have attained crucial skills that will allow them to succeed in transitioning to secondary school and their chosen career pathway.”
